The city was named for Edward Wellington Backus, a businessperson in the lumber industry. == Geography == According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.61 square miles (1.58 km2), all land. == Demographics == === 2010 census === As of the census of 2010, there were 250 people, 112 households, and 62 families living in the city.
