Wooster ( WUUST-ər) is a city in Wayne County, Ohio, United States, and its county seat. Located in northeastern Ohio, the city lies approximately 50 miles (80 km) south-southwest of Cleveland, 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Akron and 30 miles (48 km) west of Canton. The population was 27,232 at the 2020 census. It is the largest in Wayne County, and the center of the Wooster micropolitan area. Wooster is home to the private College of Wooster and the main branch of the Wayne County Public Library. == History == Wooster was established in 1808 by John Bever, William Henry, and Joseph Larwill and named after David Wooster, a general in the American Revolutionary War. == Geography == According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.36 square miles (42.37 km2), of which 16.31 square miles (42.24 km2) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) is water. It lies along Killbuck Creek, a tributary of the Walhonding River.
